living on the edge of a lagoon
Even just a half hour drive from Sydney, the project feels like a coastal town retreat. The house opens up to the sky and the land reaches down to a forested lagoon. The clients, generous and social, desired a strong connection between their home and outdoors and the opportunity to gather with neighbours along the creek frontage. The landscape design embodies this wish simply. A modest but sculptural plant palette extends over the site and spreads into planting boxes on the upper levels. The pool area extends from the house towards the creek, complementing the house and garden with a sleek suite of materials and visually unobtrusive safety fencing. The owners “pinch themselves every day” as they enjoy their indoor and outdoor spaces. The result is admirable, being a finalist in the “Sustainable House” HIA NSW GreenSmart Building Award in 2018 (Lawson & Lovell Building Services) and featuring in design magazines and weekly lifestyle newspapers.
